News & Notes

SUNDAY SCHOOL (9:30-10:15) am) The adult class is studying the Augsburg Confession. The children and youth classes meet today but then will not be meeting again until September.

BOARD of MISSIONS COLLECTION For the month of May we are collecting household and personal items for Passageways of Wichita. Passageways is a non-profit organization founded by Lutherans which seeks to provide shelter, food, hope, and a new mission for veterans who have been homeless. A list of needed household and personal items that are needed can be found on the bulletin board above the donation box located by the church office. Thanks for any help you are able to give!

MISSIONARY PARTNERSHIP Our Together-In-Mission partners – Rev. Michael and Shanna Hageman – are now in Tanzania. If you’d like to give to supporting the Hageman’s and the Lord’s mission to Tanzania, “Together-In-Mission” offering envelopes can be found on the shelf in the narthex that you can use in giving your support through the Sunday morning offering. Make checks payable to “Immanuel Lutheran Church” and the church will then forward these offerings to the Office of International Mission each quarter.

WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY continues this Wednesday at 6:30 pm. The book being used is “Strong and Courageous: Studying God’s Promises in Joshua” by Donna Snow. All ladies of the congregation are invited.

PRIVATE CONFESSION & ABSOLUTION Pastor Slater will be available in his office this coming Saturday from 10:00 am to noon for anyone desiring private Confession and Absolution.

ELECTRONIC GIVING Supporting the ministry of Immanuel is easier than ever. You can set up automatic, secure ACH offerings directly from your checking or savings account. This option offers you convenience and helps provide our congregation with steady, consistent support. If you would like to set up electronic giving, you can go on-line to immanuellutherancanton.com or contact Brent Nutter for help. Thank you for your generosity!

PENTECOST With next Sunday being the Festival of Pentecost, we will be offering Holy Communion next Sunday as well.

MAILBOXES All members/families of Immanuel have a mailbox assigned to them and so please be sure to check your mailbox on occasion. The mailboxes are in the fellowship hall by the coat rack and you can determine which box is yours by looking on the laminated sheets that are located with the mailboxes.

MOWING HELP A sign-up is posted on the bulletin board by the church office for mowing the church yard and/or the cemetery. All help is appreciated!

GRADUATES Congratulations to those who are graduating from our local high schools this weekend. The graduates are: Jordyn Elliot, Wyatt Henry and Camden Kruse who graduate from Canton-Galva High School; Jamison Kohl and Allie Soeken who graduate from Hesston High School; and Owen Colwell and Paige Vogts who graduate from Moundridge High School. We thank the Lord for these seven young people and pray the Lord’s continued guidance and grace be with them as they begin new chapters in their lives.

STEWARDSHIP THOUGHT “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven” (Acts 1:11). Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ is ascended, and Christ will come again. We live our lives in this world in the sure confidence of the world to come. We live as people who know our Lord Jesus and who know that He is coming back. This assurance makes all the difference in how we approach the things of this world.

LIFE QUOTE ”We are no longer terrified sinners but God’s own children because of what Jesus has done for us. And so, the Day of Judgment becomes good news for us—because it is the day when the One we love most returns to bring us home in peace.” Dr. Kari Vo, Lutheran Hour Ministries. A Life Quote from Lutherans For Life.

Prayer Requests

+ For Ashley Jowers, Krista Clites (sister of Jamie Kohl), Lilli Slater (step-mother of Pastor Slater), Marilyn Vogts, Marsha Wilkening, Donna Hamm, Karri Strack and Adam Soeken who face health issues.

+ For those homebound and in assisted living facilities: Richard Andrus, Irma Bullinger, LaVera Vogts, Lorene Crouse, Duane Moddelmog, Betty Colburn and Vernon Nutter.

+ For our brothers and sisters who face persecution for faith in Christ.

+ For missionaries Michael and Shanna Hageman as they serve in Tanzania.

+ For those who battle addictions and/or are incarcerated, that they may know the peace and hope that only Jesus can give.

LIVESTREAM HELP - We are needing to train a third person on live streaming for Sunday Adult Bible Study and Worship service time. Please contact Brent for details. This would involve setting up the iPad, logging onto Facebook and our church website, copying and pasting some links, maybe adjusting some volumes during the worship service periodically. We would also show you how to set up the video camera and amplifier for use with the Fellowship Hall TV / Sound System.

PRIVATE CONFESSION & ABSOLUTION - Pastor Slater will be available in his office, for any individuals who would like to have private Confession and Absolution in preparation for receiving Holy Communion, from 9:00am to Noon, each Saturday prior to the Sundays in which the Lord’s Supper will be celebrated. This is of course voluntary and not required for receiving Communion. Just an opportunity to further prepare your heart and mind for anyone who might so desire. Any questions, please let Pastor know.
